Jeff's insurance and risk management experience includes defence work in professional liability claims and dispute resolution for insurers with respect to property damage litigation, bodily injury defence, and products liability.
Jeff also has experience in employment and human rights. His experience includes drafting and enforcing agreements and the prosecution and defence of human rights and wrongful dismissal claims.
Jeff has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta and has experience in courts in other Canadian jurisdictions including British Columbia, Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories and Ontario.
Jeff is actively involved in the legal community and is the firm's representative on Meritas’ Canadian Management Committee and Chair of the firm's Student Hiring Committee.

Enbridge v. Chartis, 2014 CarswellAlta 1030
Jeff represented an international insurer with respect to an application to stay an action bought by an insured on a Bermuda insurance policy as the policy contained a mandatory arbitration clause. The Court granted the stay and directed that the London Arbitration Panel determine whether it has jurisdiction.
Blicharz v Livingstone, 2014 ABQB 373
Jeff was counsel for the Defendants in a trial where the Plaintiff was claiming over a $1 million for injuries resulting from five relatively minor car crashes. The Court did not accept the evidence of the Plaintiff. He completely dismissed any claim for damages for three of the five accidents and awarded less than $12,000 for the remaining two accidents.

Jeff successfully defended a professional maintenance contractor against allegations of negligence and breach of contract after the Plaintiff fell and injured herself while descending steps in front of her workplace.
Jeff has successfully defended several Insurers in SEF actions arising out of fatality and serious personal injury claims.
Soto v. Peel; 2013 BCSC 409
Jeff was successful in having zero liability found against his client in a multi-vehicle collision in British Columbia.
Jeff has defended developers, contractors and a variety of sub-trades in construction litigation cases dealing with, amongst other things, structural and building envelope deficiencies at residential developments, a hotel and condo buildings. Successful compromises were negotiated at mediations and at Judicial Dispute Resolution.
Jeff has defended professional engineers, insurers and medical professionals in negligence and breach of contract claims wherein experts were retained to provide opinions on applicable standards of care and damage calculation.
