Biography

Steve Eichler is a member of the Firm's Executive Committee. He has a practice emphasizing employment and administrative law, with a particular focus on occupational health and safety defence and compliance issues and related criminal matters. He has represented clients at all levels of court in Alberta, at the Federal court and also at the Supreme Court of Canada. Steve is a frequent presenter in Alberta and also nationally on OHS issues and is one of the few Alberta lawyers to achieve acquittal at trial on OHS charges. Aside from trial work, Steve often assists employers with OHS policies and due diligence preparation. Steve complements his employment law practice by practicing professional regulatory law where he advises on corporate governance, registration and admission and professional ethics.

Steve articled with the Court of Appeal and Court of Queen's Bench and practiced criminal and family law in Yellowknife before returning to Calgary to join Field.

As an active member of Calgary's arts community, Steve is vice-chair of One Yellow Rabbit Performance Theatre, is a director of Music Calgary, sat on the Board of the Calgary Folk Music Festival for many years and was on the Host City Committee of the 2008 JUNO Awards. He builds his own musical instruments and plays in and around Calgary.

In 2008, Steve received recognition for his leadership and tireless efforts in the development and growth of the most significant festival in the city, the Calgary Folk Festival and was presented the Calgary Downtown Association's Vitality Award.
