She has also acted as counsel in commercial and construction litigation cases, including negligent construction and leaky condo construction. Her clients appreciate her focus and eye for detail, as well as her ability to provide a “big picture” assessment of a claim and its inherent risks.
Sue understands that closure is beneficial and that pursuing litigation can be taxing on all parties. She regularly engages in formal and informal settlement conferences, resolving many issues for her clients through judicial dispute resolution and private mediation. When a matter cannot be settled without resorting to trial, Sue zealously represents her client’s interests and has appeared before every level of court in Alberta over her years of practice.

Blicharz v. Livingstone, 2014 ABQB 373
Along with Don Dear, Q.C., Sue was counsel for the Defendants in four Actions involved in a four week trial in Lethbridge. The Plaintiff was claiming over $1 million for injuries resulting from five relatively minor car crashes. The Court did not accept the evidence of the Plaintiff. He completely dismissed any claim for damages for three of the five accidents and awarded less that $12,000 for the remaining two accidents. As a result of strategic Formal Offers being in place, the Defendants obtained a costs judgment of $325,000 against the Plaintiff.
Barrett Estate v. Dexter, A. J. No. 955
Sue represented the Plaintiff, the Estate of Barrett, and successfully obtained a declaration that the marriage of the deceased multi-millionaire was a nullity based on his lack of legal capacity. This case was the first of its kind in Canada to assess and address legal capacity after a party’s death.
