Biography

Russell M. Racine (Russ) is a Partner in the Charlotte office of Cranfill Sumner & Hartzog, where he practices litigation in the areas of professional negligence, intellectual property, aviation, and insurance. Russ has represented a broad range of clients from individuals to Fortune 100 companies. His background and experience allows him to strategically represent and advise his clients in all aspects of litigation, including how to avoid litigation. Russ has represented clients in multiple jurisdictions including Federal and state courts in North Carolina, South Carolina, New York, California, and Texas. He has also represented businesses in opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and in Internet domain disputes before the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers.

Russ also defends real estate agents, brokers, attorneys, contractors, construction companies, logging companies, and other professionals accused of negligence. Russ has successfully* represented numerous real estate clients in cases involving undisclosed structural issues, water intrusions, and improper disclosure statements. Russ has also successfully* represented attorneys accused of professional malpractice.

In addition to litigation, Russ assists his clients with obtaining, protecting, and enforcing intellectual property rights. Russ represents clients seeking to obtain patents and trademark registrations at the United States Patent and Trademark Office and internationally through the Patent Cooperation Treaty. He has assisted clients in numerous areas of art including chemical, mechanical, pharmaceutical, automotive, water purification, industrial, and medical devices. As an integral part of representation, Russ counsels his clients regarding the best strategies to protect, maintain, and enforce their intellectual property, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets.
