  • Asbestos is a naturally occurring substance that was widely used for its insulating and fire-retardant properties. It is found in numerous construction and building materials ranging from pipe insulation and roofing materials to siding and floor tiles. Unfortunately, several forms of asbestos have been determined to cause serious health problems. Asbestos consists of microscopic fibers which can be inhaled and then lodged in the linings of the lungs, causing health effects ranging from shortness of breath to fatal cancers. Consequently, the handling of asbestos is heavily regulated and violations of those regulations are taken very seriously.
