The New Hampshire Liquor Commission recently announced that it voted to prohibit rebate offers that require consumers to remove the label from a bottle of liquor to be submitted with the rebate request due to the fact that the labels are difficult to remove and must be soaked off. The Commission does not plan to publish a formal notice or amend existing regulations, but indicated that it would no longer approve any promotional offers that require a consumer to submit the label from a bottle.
TIP: Although this announcement only applies to alcohol rebates, proof-of-purchase requirements for any mail-in rebate offer should be clear and not overly burdensome to consumers.
