  • “Standards for the Protection of Personal Information of Residents of the Commonwealth,” 201 CMR 17.00 (the “Regulation”) has at last become the law in Massachusetts. Issued by the Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation (“OCABR”) to protect Massachusetts residents and effective since March 1, 2010, the Regulation implements certain provisions of Massachusetts General Laws, CH. 93H “Security Breaches” (“CH 93H”). The Regulation establishes minimum standards that businesses and individuals must meet in connection with the safeguarding of personal information that they own, license, store or maintain about a Massachusetts resident.
