  • The law was supposed to restore confidence in the integrity and independence of the auditing profession, and reduce the number and severity of corporate and accounting frauds like the ones at Enron and WorldCom. And for a time it appeared that the auditing profession may have found religion. But, ultimately, Sarbanes-Oxley failed to make corporate accounting and disclosure frauds a thing of the past. Indeed, frauds have exploded in recent years, making it clear that the accounting industry is failing the markets.
