Following law school, Mr. Gates served as law clerk to the Honorable W. Hunt Dumont, P.J.S.C., Superior Court of New Jersey, Law Division, Morris and Sussex Counties.
Mr. Gates represents publicly traded companies, closely held corporations, and individuals in all aspects of commercial litigation in state and federal courts, as well as in arbitrations and mediations. Mr. Gates has extensive experience in the areas of professional liability defense, and the prosecution and defense of restrictive covenant cases, including non-compete, non-solicit and trade secret matters. Prior to joining Harwood Lloyd, Mr. Gates was a commercial litigation associate at Day Pitney LLP.
Mr. Gates is admitted to practice before the courts of New York (2008) and New Jersey (2006), the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey (2006), the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York (2011), the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York (2011) and the United States. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit (2009).

Mr. Gates is a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the Bergen County Bar Association, the Morris County Bar Association, and the New York State Bar Association.
Mr. Gates has been named by New Jersey Super Lawyers magazine as a “Rising Star” in New Jersey for 2013-2016. The selections for this list are made by the research team at Super Lawyers, which is a service of the Thompson Reuters, Legal division based in Egan, MN. Each year, the research team at Super Lawyers undertakes a multi-phase selection process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, independent evaluation of candidates by the attorney-led research staff, a peer review of candidates by practice area, and a good-standing and disciplinary check.
