Biography

Dan Carroll has been a partner of the firm since 1984. With broad experience in civil litigation, including insurance, commercial, aboriginal, construction, and media, Dan is usually involved in complex technically based litigation with large dollar amounts, many parties and substantial numbers of documents and witnesses. While computer assistance, litigation management and conflict resolution systems are important, keen analysis and a passion for getting it done right are his key drivers. As a complement to the civil litigation practice, he also maintains an active involvement in the fields of loss prevention advice and alternative dispute resolution, having completed mediation courses offered by the Alberta Arbitration and Mediation Society and acted as a volunteer mediator for the Better Business Bureau. Some representative files and matters include:

•Representation of Chief Restructuring Advisor in major CCAA proceeding
•Lawyers' insurance defense counsel on multi-million dollar claims
•Counsel for over 1,000 Plaintiffs advancing Residential School claims against Canada and churches in Alberta mass tort action/national class action ($5B settlement)
•Manager of the Field Residential Schools practice unit of ten counsel, seven paralegals, three assistants
•Litigation counsel to ski resort, newspaper, land developer, oil manufacturing and education clients
•Defense of major petrochemical fire losses (oil sands claims) ($1B, $250M)
•Defense of partnership dispute ($15M)
•Counsel to major contractors and owners on construction and other complex litigation issues
•Plaintiff counsel - asbestos claim ($15M)
•Plaintiff and defense defamation/media counsel - individuals, newspapers, institutions and companies
•Counsel to major banking insurer - litigation and liquidation proceedings
