Biography

Jeremiah Kowalchuk has been practising law in Edmonton since his call to the bar in 2003. He articled at Field Law and practiced at the firm as a lawyer until 2006. From 2006 to 2012, Jeremiah carried on a broad and successful practice as a sole practitioner. Jeremiah returned to Field Law in January of 2012 as a partner, and serves as the Chair of the firm's General Litigation Practice Group in Edmonton. He has a broadly based civil litigation practice.

Jeremiah has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta and before both the Trial Division and the Appeal Division of the Federal Court. He has extensive trial and Chambers experience with a litigation practice that focuses on commercial litigation, construction and real estate disputes, and debt recovery.

Jeremiah has represented and advised clients in many areas of law, including general litigation, corporate and commercial issues and disputes, foreclosures, transactional work including the purchase and sale of businesses, franchise system development and implementation, land and property development, condominium development and sales, private lending arrangements including security implementation, and the conduct of various arbitration and mediations.

Jeremiah graduated with Distinction from the University of Alberta Law School in 2002, and worked at the Alberta Law Reform Institute from 2001 to 2002 on various projects. In 1999 he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Saskatchewan.

He was elected to the Executive of the Canadian Bar Association - Alberta Branch in 2013, and will serve as the Branch's President for the 2016-2017 term. Jeremiah has sat on and chaired various Canadian Bar Association committees and sections over the years, including the Construction Law Section (North), Law Day, and the Alberta Law Conference. He has also participated as an instructor and evaluator in the Bar Admission/CPLED course.

Jeremiah is a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Edmonton Bar Association, and the Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association. Jeremiah has also been a volunteer lawyer at the Edmonton Community Legal Centre for 10 years, and recently completed a two year term on the Edmonton Community Legal Centre's Board of Directors.
