Scott Matheson

Scott Matheson: Attorney with Field Law

Biography

Scott Matheson is a business-minded lawyer with a general litigation and insurance practice, representing clients including governmental and institutional entities in commercial and other disputes in Alberta and Western Canada.

Scott's experience helping clients includes acting as business and litigation counsel for a broad range of issues, including the following:
•Commercial, shareholder and collection disputes;
•Condominium and tenancy actions;
•Professional liability defence;
•Policing; and
•Defamation claims.

His insurance practice comprises coverage, defence and subrogated actions for property, injury and casualty matters involving claims under automobile, Commercial General Liability, Errors & Omissions, Directors & Officer and other policies, including the defence of professional negligence claims.

Outside of Work

Scott is a seasoned world traveler with a weakness for New York City. He also makes it a point to drop in on court proceedings whenever he travels throughout Canada or abroad. It's cheaper than the movies. But popcorn is generally discouraged.

Experience

Scott has handled several commercial contract disagreements involving abandoned goods after an eviction or post-lease. This is a common problem for landlords, banks and other, related parties to an agreement. So, we've created a template that offers a set of practical options that often avoid the need for legal action altogether.

He has significant experience handling matters throughout the courts of Alberta, including contested special chambers applications, judicial dispute resolution hearings, pre-trial conferences, mediations and trials, cases at the Provincial Court of Alberta both Civil and Criminal, the Court of Queen's Bench of Alberta and briefing matters at both the Court of Appeal of Alberta and the Supreme Court of Canada.
