  • Just as the new school year began for many of Delaware’s charter schools, Governor Markell signed into law HB 205 ¿ an amendment to Delaware’s Charter School statute passed unanimously at the end of the legislative session. As announced, the Bill was intended to address some of the perceived statutory shortfalls (most notably the absence of criminal background checks and financial disclosures) that gained notoriety during the most recent charter renewal period. While many believed these requirements were unnecessary or should be applied equally to traditional school boards, the provisions were neither controversial nor burdensome.
