  • On December 26, 2007, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission issued a final rule in the Federal Register (29 CFR Parts 1625 and 1627) that allows employers to reduce or eliminate health benefits for retirees when they turn 65 and become eligible for Medicare. The new rule permits employers to "coordinate" retiree health benefits with Medicare and other comparable state programs.
