  • As part of a nationwide enforcement initiative, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (OEPA) have been stepping up efforts to prevent or minimize sanitary and combined sewer overflows from municipal sewer systems. Ohio alone has 1,600 known combined sewer systems in 102 communities, ranging from small, rural villages to large municipalities. OEPA and USEPA have recently increased their respective enforcement activities with respect to combined sewer overflow systems.
