  • On June 7, Georgia's Environmental Protection Division unveiled its proposed plan to bring the 13-county Atlanta area into compliance with federal clean air standards. Citing dramatic economic and population growth, exceptional reliance on the automobile, and the transport of ozone from nearby states, EPD has designed a regulatory plan with control measures that reach well beyond the 13-county ozone non-attainment area. EPD believes that this proposal will enable Atlanta to achieve compliance with the one-hour, 0.12-part-per-million ozone standard by 2003.
