  • In the December 28, 2010 Federal Register, the Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”) announced that it was reopening the comment period for the April 17, 1997 proposed rule that would replace the then-existing voluntary system of filing GRAS affirmation petitions for human food and animal feed ingredients with a less labor-intensive voluntary GRAS notification system for those ingredients (“Proposed Rule”). The Proposed Rule was also intended to clarify the criteria for exempting the use of GRAS substances from the food additive petition process.
