Editor in Chief, Campbell Law Review, 1983-1984. From 1984 through 1990, I associated with the firm of Coward, Hicks & Siler, PA, before serving as an assistant district attorney from 1991 through 1994. I returned to Coward, Hicks & Siler, PA, as a shareholder in late 1994. In 2001, I became a Board Certified Specialist in Family Law, and limited my practice to matters involving divorce and other family matters. I am admitted to practice in all North Carolina State courts, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
I served as a member of the board of directors of Mountain Youth Resources, a non-profit providing resources to troubled teens and abused children in Western North Carolina, from 1989-1992, and vice-chair in 1991-1992. I was a founding Board Member of Kids Interdisciplinary Services, Inc. (Kid's Place), a non-profit child abuse advocacy center, and served as a member of the board from 1991-1996, and as chair in 1995-1996. I served as council member on the Family Law Section of the North Carolina Bar Association from 2000-2003. I am the former Secretary to the 30th Judicial District Bar and a former participant in the North Carolina Legal Services Pro Bono and Judicare Programs and a former member of the Child Protection Teams in Macon and Swain Counties. From 2003 to 2011, I served on the board of Angel Medical Center and on the Executive Committee during the last two years of that service.
