- Martin Shkreli, aka "Pharma bro," became one of the most reviled people in the country when his company made headlines last year raising the price of a life-saving drug from $13.50 a tablet to a staggering $750 a tablet. This week, Shrkeli testified before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Needless to say, his appearance didn't win him anymore fans.
Shkreli giggled, smirked and laughed his way through the hearing.
When Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-UT) asked him, "do you think you've done anything wrong?" Shkreli giggled.
Outside of invoking his Fifth Amendment right, Shkreli answered only two questions.
In the weeks leading up to this hearing, Shkreli tweeted about receiving his subpoena and mocked those who issued it.
Tweeting at Elijah Cummings (D-MD), “House busy whining to healthcare reporters about me appearing for their chit chat next week. Haven’t decided yet. Should I?” and “Your attempt to subvert my constitutional right to the 5th amendment are disgusting & insulting to all Americans.”
In December, Shkreli was arrested on federal securities fraud charges and freed on a $5 million bond.
