  • On Tuesday, Senators Jim Inhofe (R-OK) and Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) unveiled an amendment to provide $250 million on water infrastructure and other public health problems to address the crisis in Flint, Michigan. This agreement could finally clear a path for the Senate’s energy bill that has been held up for three weeks over the Flint provision.

It is unknown whether the Flint provision will actually move as part of the energy bill or whether it will pass a stand-alone or be added to another piece of legislation.

The cost for the Flint bill is offset by cutting $250 million from a Department of Energy program for “advanced technology vehicles.” Supporters in the Senate had originally sought as much as $600 million, but had struggled to find offsets for that amount and encountered opposition from some Senate Republicans over that high dollar figure.
