Tom Aycock is a defense lawyer in Grand Rapids, Michigan with extensive experience defending clients in civil litigation actions. Tom represents national, regional and local corporate and insurance entities in all major Michigan venues including, Wayne, Kent and Oakland Counties. Tom has participated in multiple jury and bench trials, with considerable experience in alternate dispute resolution proceedings and hundreds of fact and expert depositions. His emphasis is corporate and insurance defense litigation in the areas of commercial transportation, no-fault and general liability. He specializes in complex personal injury cases having litigated many high-end damages cases, including class actions, with very favorable results against the best trial lawyers in Michigan.

Prior to joining Smith Haughey in 2006, Tom was a trial defense attorney in New Orleans, Louisiana in the practice of defending corporations, their executive officers and insurers in complex asbestos and silica exposure personal injury suits. In addition to the above described skills and experience, you will find Tom to be a very personable person with excellent communication skills who forges strong client relationships.

My practice revolves around three main standards: setting goals, achieving those goals, and building successful relationships. Each standard is set with an individual client and their unique challenge in mind. Tom has served on the firm’s Associate Committee, Diversity Committee and Internship/Externship Committee. He is the firm’s liaison for veterans’ affairs to the Grand Rapids Bar Association and Michigan Defense Trial Counsel. Tom is very active in his community with past and current memberships with American Legion Post 311, Rotary Club, Ducks Unlimited and serves as general counsel to the Caledonia Sportsmen Club. Tom is a native of Louisiana and enjoys competitive trap and skeet shooting, military history and raising his daughter to be the best that she can be.
