Raised in Redding, California, Derek played basketball at the University of New Mexico and the University of California, Davis. He graduated with a degree in Classical Civilization with an emphasis in Latin from UC Davis in 2010. Derek attended law school at the University of Montana in Missoula and was actively involved with the Student Bar Association and the International Law program. When he is not working, Derek enjoys playing basketball and spending time with his wife Amy and their two dogs.
