  • On April 14, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act's ("HIPAA") revolutionary privacy regulations went into effect. While hospitals, health insurers and other directly covered entities have been preparing for these regulations for years, every employer with a workforce is likely to feel some impact from these new regulations. The most basic functions of an employer's day-to-day operations, such as the receipt and handling of an employee's doctor note, may be altered depending on how the regulations categorize an employer.
