  • The Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) has issued policy guidance clarifying that hospitals generally may discount their charges to patients who lack the ability to pay. HHS has provided hospitals with further guidance regarding permissible discounting arrangements. This guidance will help hospitals better understand the permissible parameters of their discount programs and collection practices for indigent, uninsured and underinsured patients.
