  • Recently, the Department of Health and Human Services ("DHHS") issued a notice regarding various revisions to the privacy regulations promulgated under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 ("HIPAA").1 The DHHS notice makes a number of major changes to the HIPAA privacy regulations. However, most of these changes apply to health care providers and not employer group health plans. The changes impacting employer health plans involve a minor clarification regarding release of enrollment-related information from health plans to plan sponsors, and an extension of time for recontracting certain business associate agreements.
