  • Effective October 17, 2005, Congress enacted sweeping changes of the Bankruptcy Code driven by various special interest groups. The impact to the consumer bankruptcies has been widely publicized; however, many other changes have received little or no publicity. The new law affects health care businesses by adding the requirement of an ombudsman in bankruptcy cases to oversee patient care and imposing restrictions on the maintenance and disposal of patient records.
