  • The Hispanic Interest Coalition of Alabama (HICA) and the United States Department of Justice have petitioned the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals for emergency relief to prevent Alabama from enforcing certain provisions of H.B. 56, the new immigration statute. These pleas come shortly after Judge Blackburn denied an emergency stay pending appeal at the District Court level. The 11th Circuit began considering the arguments on Wednesday, October 12, 2011.
