• Vietnam: New Reporting Requirements for Work Permit Sponsors in Hanoi

  • Employers based in Hanoi must now file a periodic report on their employment of foreign nationals, according to a recent circular released jointly by the People’s Committee of Hanoi and the Vietnamese Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs. Employers are required to submit their first report on May 30, 2011; a second report for 2011 is due on November 30. Going forward, the reports will be due no later than May 30 and November 30 of each year.

    For the May 2011 report, companies must complete the official form provided by the Department, which requests details of the company’s employment of foreign nationals during the first six months of the year, as well as their plans for the employment of foreign nationals for the remaining six months of the year. The completed form should be returned to the Department of Labor’s Employment and Labor Policies Office in Hanoi.

    Currently, only Hanoi-based companies are required to file the report. Fragomen will continue to monitor whether the requirement will be extended to employers based outside of Hanoi.
