The Romanian work permit quota will be 5,500 for 2012. The new quota numbers will become available on January 1.
Each year, Romania sets a quota on the number of work permits it will issue. Just as it did this year, immigration authorities will break up the overall 2012 quota, allocating available work permits separately for each category. Within the overall quota, only 700 work permits will be available to intracompany transferees, 1,000 will be allocated to highly skilled foreign nationals hired locally, and 3,000 for other local hires. The remaining quota numbers will be set aside for other categories, such as interns, athletes and certain short-term workers.
Work permits are currently unavailable for intracompany transferees since the 2011 quota was exhausted last month.
