The majority of Brazilian consulates across the United States are accepting limited visa and legalization applications due to issues with their electronic systems.
Each consulate has placed different restrictions on applications accepted at this time.
New York and Washington, D.C.: currently closed due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy.
Chicago: no visa applications will be accepted, but legalizations for Brazilian citizens residing in its jurisdiction will be processed.
Los Angeles and San Francisco: applications will be accepted, but will be processed with considerable delays.
Boston: visa applications will be accepted only for individuals who intend to travel to Brazil in November.
Houston: visa applications will be restricted to individuals who intend to travel to Brazil before January 15, 2013.
Atlanta, Miami, and Hartford, Connecticut: no official communications have been sent by these consulates, but initial reports confirm they are facing the same technical difficulties.
There is no word on the exact nature of the technical issues or when they will be resolved. Due to backlogs that will develop during this time, significant processing delays are expected for visa and legalization applications at Brazilian consulates for the next month.
