Foreign nationals must submit a digital photograph to schedule an appointment online for any in-country immigration process at Foreigners Regional Registration Offices (FRROs) and Foreign Registration Offices (FROs) throughout India. Foreign nationals should provide the photograph to their immigration service provider prior to entering India so that a timely appointment can be secured on their behalf.
The photograph must measure 3.5 x 4.5 cm or 3.5 x 3.5 cm and present the applicant’s full face, front view: from the top of the hair to the bottom of the chin with eyes open and head centered in the frame. There should be no shadows on the face or in the background. The background should be light-colored or white without any borders. The image file must be in JPEG format and under 50KB.
Each applicant must bring the same photograph in hard copy to his or her appointment.
The new photograph requirement was recently announced on India’s online application website. The website also states that supporting documentation must also be uploaded to secure an appointment, but this requirement is not being enforced at this time. It is expected to be phased in gradually.
