  • On August 9, 2004, President Bush signed legislation extending the requirement for countries participating in the Visa Waiver Program to have biometric passports. The new deadline is October 26, 2005. However, the legislation did not change the requirement that by October 26, 2004, all individuals entering the U.S. must hold a "machine readable" passport.
