  • On December 12, 2001, the U.S. Senate joined the House of Representatives in passing Legislation that would delay for one year (until October 16, 2003), the compliance date for the transactions and code set standards promulgated under the Administrative Simplification Provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 ("HIPAA"), but only for those HIPAA-covered entities that submit a compliance plan to the Department of Health and Human Services.
