  • When the Czech Republic joins the EU, the fundamental freedoms granted under the EC Treaty will apply within its borders. One such freedom is the right to freely establish in other Member States. This freedom applies not only to individuals, but to all EU companies that pursue an economic objective. EC company law is designed to achieve the necessary harmonization of the national laws to allow for the effective exercise of this right by companies. It also aims to provide equivalent protection across the EU for shareholders and other third parties dealing with companies and to promote cross-border co-operation between companies in different Member States. From May 1, 2004, it will apply in the Czech Republic.
