Since being admitted to the bar in 1975 Watts has spent most of his career representing companies and individuals in the energy sector, both upstream and mid-stream. He has prepared mining, drilling and division order title opinions. Watts has been involved in transactions involving the purchase and sale of producing properties and the purchase and sale of natural gas storage facilities. He has represented numerous clients before the State Oil and Gas Board of Mississippi on both storage and exploration & production issues. Watts has assisted clients in the development of natural gas storage facilities in both salt domes and depleted gas fields, including the acquisition of surface and subsurface rights, obtaining requisite authority from state regulatory agencies. He has handled disputes between land owners and operators and between operators. He has prepared oil and gas leases, exploration agreements, seismic permits, deeds, assignments, and other documents used in the energy industry.Watts has represented both operators and land owners in disputes over royalty calculation and payment. His litigation experience includes mineral ownership disputes, land line disputes and lease expiration disputes.
