The firm was formed in March, 1987, when its initial partners, Earl M. Barker, Jr., and Arnold H. Slott combined their practices - Mr. Barker concentrating primarily in litigation and Mr. Slott concentrating primarily in transactional matters. Nr. Nussbaum's real estate transaction and litigation practice was merged with Slott & Barker, March 1, 2005.
Mr. Barker is a former Assistant State Attorney for the Fourth Judicial Circuit of Florida. He was the supervising partner of the business law department of a major Jacksonville law firm before beginning the sole practice that became part of his present firm. Mr. Barker offers a strong trial practice background with extensive experience in business and commercial law. He is a retired U.S. Naval Reserve Captain in the Judge Advocate General's Corps.
Mr. Slott represents principals and lenders in business transactions which include sales, acquisitions, mergers and business financing matters. He also concentrates in matters relating to real estate, construction liens and bonds, estate planning and trusts, commercial litigation and eminent domain. Mr. Slott is a Florida certified mediator and conducts case mediations on a regular basis. Mr. Slott has served as Chairman of a Florida Bar grievance committee and as Chairman of the Jacksonville Bar Association television panel committee. Prior to the establishment of this law firm, he was a partner in a former major Jacksonville law firm.
Mr. Nussbaum has been a Florida Bar Board Certified real estate lawyer since the inception of certification in real estate law in 1987. He served on the Florida Bar's real estate certification committee for three years and a local professional ethics committee for three years during one of which he served as chairman. Mr. Nussbaum has extensive experience in many different types of real property litigation and arbitration and in transactional matters.
Ms. Foster joined the firm in 1997 as a Certified Legal Assistant. She continued to work for the firm full time while attending law school in the evenings. Prior to her admission to the Florida Bar in 2006, she served principally as Mr. Barker's Legal Assistant, acquiring extensive experience in all aspects of civil litigation, business bankruptcy, real estate and corporate matters. Her previous experience included representation of employers in employment law matters. In addition to those areas of law in which she has worked during the past nine years, Ms. Foster emphasizes practice in the areas of Business Law, Wills, Trusts, Estate Planning and Elder law.
