Attorney Walter J. Dunn joined Womack Phelps Puryear Mayfield & McNeil, P.A. in November 2016 as Of Counsel.
Practicing law since 2000, Walter has extensive experience with energy transactional matters, representing large investor-owned utilities and independent power producers. Walter's focus has been the representation of developers and operators of electric generation facilities, conventional and alternative, and midstream gas facilities domestically and internationally. This focus includes construction contracts, interconnection agreements, fuel supply agreements, power sales agreements, operations and maintenance agreements, and power and fuel hedge agreements.
Walter's practice also includes corporate commercial transactions ranging from Fortune 500 clients to start-up companies.
He assists clients in the negotiation and drafting of contracts for engineering, procurement and construction of large-scale construction projects, including coal-fired power plants and supporting facilities, gas fired plants, ocean-side terminals, storage facilities, nuclear power plants, luxury hotels, office buildings and public use space domestically and internationally. He frequently drafts sample contracts and assists in bid evaluations, as well as negotiating with bidders and contract administration during construction.
Walter's additional representative experience includes:
•Represented a publicly traded company with the development of electric generating facilities using animal waste domestically and internationally.
•Represented a client developing an LNG liquefaction facility with the initial engineering contracts, equipment procurement and construction contracts.
•Represented developers of wind projects with the turbine purchase agreements and operation and maintenance agreements totaling over 4, 000 MW.
•Represented an investor-owned natural gas transmission company with the development, construction, and purchase of multiple natural gas extraction and fractionation processing facilities in the Marcellus and Utica Shale regions.
•Drafting, negotiating and advising clients in connection with physical and financial transactions for various energy commodities (involving ISDA Master Agreements and related documentation, credit support agreements, and netting and collateral arrangements), and long term energy purchase and sale agreements (transactions in PJM, ERCOT, NEPOOL and other markets).
Prior to practicing law, Walter was a marketing analyst and professional representative at Merck & Co. and was also a pharmaceutical sales representative for Bayer Corp.
Walter earned his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 2000, and he received his M.B.A. in 1995 and his B.S. in 1989, both from Arkansas State University.
