About our Katy, TX: office

Finding a resolution to any legal concern can be overwhelming and seem like a daunting task filled with uncertainties and pitfalls. My firm, Martin M. Hokanson, Attorney at Law, has the practical insight based on experience to help you move forward in the most effective and efficient manner. As a sole-practitioner real estate attorney in the Katy, Texas area, I advise people who are facing disputes with property owners, contractors, tenants and other parties involved in commercial real estate. As well as litigating, I review and draft contracts and other agreements with a view to avoiding disputes for my clients down the road. From the conference room to the courtroom, I have been practicing law and litigating real estate and other business matters in the greater Houston area for more than three decades. Several qualities distinguish my practice:

Experience - I have more than 35 years of experience at both large law firms and as a sole practitioner and bring a unique perspective and background that serves my clients well, both plaintiffs and defendants. I have handled thousands of cases, including nearly 200 trials. I represent lenders, business owners and individuals, and understand all sides of a case.

A litigator's litigator - I have earned the top rating from my peers in the legal profession. Other firms often call on me to handle their difficult cases. I offer this level of skill to each client, whether a business or an individual.

Personal attention - I am a sole practitioner by choice. There are no other attorneys or paralegals in my office. I immerse myself in each case, and handle all aspects myself, providing an exceptional, personal degree of support to each client.

Competitive fees - As a sole practitioner who maintains an efficient office, my overhead is lower than that of the large firms. As a result, my fees are very competitive. Litigation can be costly, but I want to keep it affordable for my clients.

Backed by a successful track record, I have helped countless business owners and individuals through a variety of legal issues, including:

Real estate - When real estate disputes arise, unless you take great care, the value of your investment could be quickly destroyed through costly litigation. I work to settle disputes but am more than capable of going to court when needed.

Real estate litigation - From boundary disputes to contract disputes for fraud or breach, I provide the practical counsel plaintiffs and defendants alike need in all types of real estate litigation.

Business & commercial litigation - When business disputes cannot be easily settled amicably between two parties, I have the experience and judgment to pursue a resolution through a variety of effective methods, including business litigation.

Probate - Estate planning is applicable to everyone, regardless of the size of your estate. Wills, trusts and powers of attorney let your loved ones know your wishes when you can't voice them anymore. I also assist with estate and probate administration and handle probate and trust disputes.

Business formation - When starting a small business, choosing the best organizational entity - such as a limited liability company, sole proprietorship, limited partnership, S corporation or C corporation - helps put you on the path to success. Each type has its own legal requirements, compliance issues, varying levels of potential personal liability and tax implications.

Construction law - Commercial leases and construction contracts must be handled properly to protect your interests and avoid disputes. I understand how to limit unnecessary liability, maximize the return on your investment and resolve disputes efficiently, whether you are putting up a new commercial building or remodeling an existing one. I represent building owners and contractors.
