Biography

Kelly Tanner handles matters in criminal and civil law at Banks and Jones. Before attending the Duncan School of law, Kelly served as a law enforcement officer for more than 20 years. He has made literally hundreds of cases in nearly every conceivable facet of criminal law while serving as a law enforcement officer, such as DUI, theft, assaults and domestic issues, even robberies and murders. He has extensive experience investigating complex drug offenses at both the state and federal levels. To say that he has knowledge of how the prosecution makes their cases is an understatement. He knows the system from both sides.Kelly has also investigated hundreds of automobile crashes, reconstructing many involving deaths of occupants. He served as an accident reconstructionist during his prior law enforcement career, giving him keen insight into the civil area of legal practice. This skill becomes quite valuable when representing a client who has been hurt in a car crash, or worse – has lost a loved one a car crash. While other attorneys spend thousands for the consultation of an accident reconstructionist, Kelly has the firsthand skill and knowledge himself. With the skills that few attorneys possess in these regards, Kelly can apply them to the benefit of his clients in resolving their problems.Related ExperienceKnoxville Police Department, SergeantCreation of the Knoxville Police Department’s first criminal interdiction unitInitiated over 70 high level drug cases in the Knoxville Organized Crime UnitLed and supervised a patrol squad to better identify criminal trends and community problems, and direct KPD assetsAccident reconstruction500 hours of highly specialized investigative training.
