  • Over half a million members of the National Guard and Reserve have been mobilized following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. As these service members conclude their tours of duty and re-enter the civilian workforce, employers need to be knowledgeable as to these individuals' rights, benefits, and obligations under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act ("USERRA"). In an effort to provide guidance to both employers and employees in this regard, the Department of Labor ("DOL") has issued new regulations, which took effect on January 18, 2006.
