  • The government of Quebec has expanded an expedited work permit processing program to include new occupations in IT and management consulting, among other shortage professions. Professionals with offers of temporary employment in one of the designated professions in Quebec are exempt from the Labor Market Opinion (LMO) requirement and benefit from streamlined processing.

The list of shortage occupations that qualify for expedited processing now includes IT systems managers, mechanical and IT engineers, web technicians and graphic designers, as well as business management consultants, restaurant and food service managers and miners working in underground production and development.

The new shortage occupation list applies to work permit applications submitted on or after February 24, 2013. Applications submitted before that date must reference a position that appears on the previous list. Both lists are available on the MICC website (French only).

The new shortage list is subject to review after 30 days and could be amended by the government of Quebec.
