  • Although much of the discussion lately has been focused on Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) trials, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has also taken an initiative to reduce the backlog of ex parte appeals and to reduce the average pendency of appeals of examiner rejections. In past years, to applicants, the PTAB guised itself as a black hole for appealing examiner decisions in slowly processing examiner rejections.
