A mother sustained fatal injuries and her child was seriously injured after a car struck them in Wayne, New Jersey on Tuesday night. Around 7 pm, the mother and her 6-year-old child attempted to cross Valley Road when a car hit them during the Wayne pedestrian accident. They were taken to the St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center where the mother succumbed to her fatal injuries within the hour while the child is being treated for injuries. Both the driver and passenger escaped the Wayne pedestrian accident unscathed.
The number of pedestrian crashes occurring in New Jersey is becoming an epidemic. Even when towns institute programs on pedestrian safety, the incidents continue to occur, and leave pedestrians with a spate of personal injuries or potential fatalities. On Monday, a fatal accident involving a pedestrian took place in the same town on the same road, which may indicate contributing factors that lead to these kinds of accidents like poor lighting or a lack of established crosswalks.
