  • After a man tripped and fell, a box truck hit him, claiming the life of the 56-year-old pedestrian on Tuesday afternoon in Oakland, New Jersey. Shortly after 4 pm, the fatal pedestrian accident occurred when a Lincoln Park, New Jersey resident who was walking in a parking lot near Spruce Street took a fall and a box truck struck him. First responders tried to revive the victim who suffered a severe head injury in the accident, but he succumbed to his fatal injuries at the accident site where the box truck hit him.

Due to the congestion found on many thoroughfares in New Jersey, pedestrian accidents have risen to catastrophic proportions. Unfortunately, despite pedestrian safety programs implemented throughout the state, fatalities continue to occur among pedestrians. Oftentimes, distracted driving and reckless driving are contributing factors to this type of accident as well as poorly lit streets and a lack of designated crosswalks.
