A five-year-old girl sustained fatal injuries in a fiery tractor-trailer crash on Wednesday morning. The child was in an SUV that was disabled on the southbound side of the New Jersey Turnpike in East Windsor, New Jersey after the SUV hit a concrete barrier. One tractor-trailer driver stopped to offer assistance to the stranded individuals, and then a second tractor-trailer struck the SUV, which ejected the child from the vehicle and claimed her life. Upon impact, a large fire engulfed all three vehicles. The driver of the SUV and the driver of the second truck sustained minor personal injuries in the accident.
When a tractor-trailer engages in an accident with a smaller vehicle like a car, the results could be catastrophic. Due to the size and girth of a truck, the vehicles require more experienced drivers to operate them. In some cases, the drivers may experience fatigue, be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or engage in other negligent driving practices when a collision occurs.
