Although state traffic laws are meant to protect both motorists and pedestrians, many drivers are unaware of these guidelines or may fail to use caution when pedestrians attempt to cross in properly designated crosswalks. At least 150 fatalities occur each year involving pedestrians and bicyclists. If pedestrians do survive the accident, they may no longer be able to earn an adequate income or maintain their quality of life.
