• Up to Eight Fatalities Occur in Manhattan Truck Accident
  • October 31, 2017
  • A truck accident in New York occurred on Tuesday afternoon causing up to eight fatalities. Apparently, a truck was driving the wrong way down the West Side Highway bike path in Lower Manhattan, striking several bicyclists and leaving several fatalities as well as numerous personal injuries in its wake. Once the truck driver exited the vehicle, he was discovered to be armed, and the police used deadly force to stop him from any further action. He is being treated at a local hospital under police custody. Police suspect that the act may have been intentional but will conduct an investigation.

Pedestrians and bicyclists are vulnerable when traversing city streets because, even if they obey traffic laws, the possibility remains that a vehicle may strike them. Traffic laws protect pedestrians and cyclists, but sometimes, motorists fail to use caution around them or may be oblivious to their presence. If a pedestrian or bicyclist is hit by a vehicle, the victim may incur a range of injuries and be at-risk for a fatality.
