A school bus packed with students engaged in a multi-vehicle crash on Wednesday afternoon in East Orange, New Jersey. Before 4 pm, the school bus slammed into a guardrail on Interstate 280 after a collision with three other vehicles. Six students from the bus were transported to a local hospital for treatment, and multiple victims sustained minor personal injuries.
Although school buses are used daily to transport children to and from school, they are vulnerable in motor vehicle accidents. Since they generally do not contain any safety features like air bags, they offer little protection to occupants in a bus accident, and may lead to a variety of injuries as well as potential fatalities. In some cases, the bus driver may be at fault if the individual does not have enough experience operating a bus or engages in reckless driving or intoxicated driving.
