A pedestrian was fatally struck while crossing a street in Lakewood, New Jersey. Around 5 pm, on Tuesday evening, the pedestrian accident occurred when a 53-year-old woman crossed the street and was hit by an SUV driven by a 66-year-old man from Toms River, New Jersey. No crosswalks exist on the street, and lighting is sparse in that area, which contributed to the incident with the woman who succumbed to her fatal injuries within an hour of the crash.
On Tuesday, authorities in Lakewood announced a new safety program focusing on the roads in the community due to the alarming number of serious car crashes occurring in the area. Unfortunately, a fatal accident took place later that same day involving a pedestrian and demonstrated how desperately safety measures are needed to protect pedestrians and motorists from dangerous accidents. Personal injuries and potential fatalities stem from motor vehicle accidents, which could be prevented if safety measures are implemented.
