A massive 20-car pileup occurred in Germantown, Maryland on Monday morning that injured dozens of victims. Just before 5:30 am, the multi-vehicle accident took place on Interstate 270, involving 20 vehicles and a tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer spilled a load of gravel and stones, which led to multiple crashes behind the truck. Two dozen patients received medical evaluations at area hospitals, and four victims sustained personal injuries, two of whom were deemed in critical condition. No cause has been determined as to why the 20-car pileup occurred.
Most multi-vehicle accidents occur after one crash takes place in a highly congested area or drivers fail to use caution while driving around an accident site or unexpectedly become engaged in a collision. The results of a chain reaction crash like this could be catastrophic and cause debilitating injuries as well as fatalities for numerous victims including pedestrians. Survivors may experience mental trauma, changes in their quality of life, and an inability to earn an income after a serious accident.
